The company, which builds exhaust systems and engine-independent heating systems, is pushing through a site plan with the Novi city council to build a permanent $25-million headquarters facility at 12 Mile and Haggerty roads.

The company is a division of J.Eberspaecher GmbH and Co. based in Germany.

Werner Mantay, president of the Michigan arm, says the company servesclients such as Daimler Chrysler, Audi Volkswagen and BMW. Major clients will now include as Ford Motor Co. and the General Motors Corp.Mantay tells GlobeSt.com that Novi is the perfect center for its customers.

"If you took a map and plotted the technical centers for Ford, GM and DC, and their three proving grounds, you'd wind up with our Novi site in the middle. We're an equal 35-40 minutes from each site," he says.

The new 66,000-sf digs will create at least 75 new jobs for the region,Mantay adds. About 4,600 employees work for the company around the globe. He would not reveal the number of employees at the Farmington Hills site.

Mantay says the company has received preliminary site plan approval, and submitted a final site plan to the Novi planning commission on April 4. He says it will probably take about a month for the paperwork to go through and the commission will look to approve the plans at one of their two meetings in May. The city council will still have to approve the plan, after the commission's recommendation.

"Novi has set the area aside for high-tech construction. We felt we fit that profile very nicely," Mantay says.

Walbridge Aldinger Co. is the builder for the project, joined by architects Ghafari Associates. The broker was Thompson-Brown Realty Co.The company is also working on the design to build a plant in the US. Mantay would not confirm where, or when the plant will be built.
