Commuter-Rail Plan Gets Environment Scrutiny

MIAMI-The tentative proposal would provide daily commuters and air passengers with the first direct access from Downtown across the Metrorail transit system to Miami International Airport and neighboring commercial districts.

MIAMI-Everyone from property owner to urban commuter is getting the opportunity to voice an opinion on a multimillion-dollar plan to build direct rail access from Downtown across the Metrorail transit system to Miami International Airport.

The proposed 2.5-mile route would traverse a heavily commercial district east of the airport that some real estate experts consider fertile for long-term redevelopment possibilities.

In advance of a public meeting later this month, the Federal Transit Administration announced Monday its intent to prepare an environmental impact statement on the effect of the Airport/Earlington Heights Connector Project.
