The property, at 23228 Madero, is the former home of Charter Behavioral Hospital. The 80-bed psychiatric facility closed its doors in October 1999 as part of a restructuring by its former owner, Crescent Operating Inc., which subsequently sold the property to a private group of investors known as Red Dog Properties LLC.

The new owner is Royale Mission Viejo LLC, another Southland-based real estate investment group. Royale Mission Viejo will operate the building for its new tenant, the Orange County Health Department, which will use the complex to provide psychiatric care and related services.

Stephen Grossman of Lee & Associates' Newport Beach office represented Royale Mission in the acquisition. Mike Austin of the Irvine office of Sperry Van Ness represented Red Dog Properties.
