Ballpark Project Gets $16-Mil Infusion

SAN DIEGO-The San Diego City Council, sitting as the Redevelopment Agency, voted unanimously to raise its stake for acquisition of land for the stalled ballpark project from $61 million to $77 million.

SAN DIEGO-City leaders Tuesday voted to up the amount of money they will contribute to the Downtown ballpark construction project by $16 million. The San Diego City Council, sitting as the Redevelopment Agency, voted unanimously to raise its stake for acquisition of land for the project from $61 million to $77 million.

The contribution will come through the Centre City Development Corp., the redevelopment agency’s development arm. Mayor Dick Murphy earlier this year called for a more conservative approach toward providing public financing for the $450 million project. The city’s share of the project is $225 million.
