''With this expansion, we are hoping to meet the demands of a growing market,'' says Joe Collins, vice president and general manager of the casino. The expansion allows Fitzgeralds to provide another 330 slot machines, a second hospitality booth and a second floor dining area, he adds.
Last November, Majestic Star Casino of Gary, IN, agreed to pay $149 million, plus assume certain liabilities, to purchase three Fitzgeralds casinos, including the one in Black Hawk.
Michael Kelly, Majestic's chief operating officer, was on hand for the ground-breaking.''Majestic was attracted to Fitzgeralds and the Black Hawk property in particular due to the strong market demand and the ability to further expand the Fitzgeralds footprint in Black Hawk,'' Kelly says.
Fitzgeralds Gaming corp. owns and operates four Fitzgeralds casino hotels. They're located in downtown Las Vegas, Reno, Tunica, MS and Black Hawk. The sale to Majestic is expected to close in the fourth quarter.
