Greenwich Capital Markets Starts CDO Group

GREENWICH, CT-In a move to take advantage of a burgeoning sector of the commercial finance industry, Greenwich Capital Markets reports that it has established a Collateralized Debt Obligation Group headed by industry veteran Fred Matera.

GREENWICH, CT-Greenwich Capital Markets reports that it has established a Collateralized Debt Obligation Group. In addition, the fixed-income banking firm announces that Fed Matera has joined the company as managing director of the new CDO division.

Greg Jacobs, managing director of Non-Agency and Commercial Trading and co-head of the company’s Commercial Assets Group, made the announcement. “We started to take a look at getting into the CDO business a few months back,” Jacobs says. “This is a natural extension of our expertise. We are starting to see more CDOs in the asset-backed arena.” He adds that the new CDO Group will be looking to trade and issue CDOs for its clients.

Matera, who previously worked with CSFB/DLJ and successfully established DLJ’s CDO presence in 1998, is seen as a major asset to the new CDO Group that will eventually employ six to nine people. Matera, who holds a B.A. in economics from Tufts University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School, has also spent several years trading both mortgage and asset-backed securities for the company.
