Industrial Market Belies Manufacturing Sector

ORANGE COUNTY-Area brokers say the industrial real estate market here is still performing strongly despite a slowdown in the county's manufacturing sector that has affected production, employment and new orders.

ORANGE COUNTY-Although a recent study reports a slowdown in Orange County’s manufacturing sector in the first quarter of 2001, area brokers say they have yet to see any negative effect on the county’s industrial real estate market.

Production, employment and new orders in Orange County’s manufacturing sector have all declined significantly in this year’s first quarter, according to a recent report published by Chapman University in Orange. Chapman’s seasonally adjusted index that measures manufacturing activity in the county has dropped from 52.7 in the fourth quarter of 2000 to 43.7 in the first quarter of 2001.
