The company hopes to maximize its use of the 600,000-sf Perryman facility as a distributor of perishables, says Mike Jackson, executive vice president of the $23-billion food wholesaler and retailer. Supervalu says Perryman's central location and productive workforce complements its logistics network in the Mid-Atlantic and New England region.

Business handled by the Suffield facility will be transferred to other Supervalu distribution centers in New England.
