Supervalu Keeps 1, Closes Another Facility

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN-A deal to sell two facilities falls through. While it is keeping its Perryman, MD distribution facility open, Supervalu Inc. will close its Suffield, CT food warehouse June 30.

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN-Supervalu Inc. says it will keep its Perryman, MD distribution facility in operation but will close its Suffield, CT food warehouse June 30. A tentativearrangement to sell the Supervalu distribution center at Perryman and lease the Suffield facility to Fleming Cos. was terminated when the two parties failed to reach a final agreement.

The company hopes to maximize its use of the 600,000-sf Perryman facility as a distributor of perishables, says Mike Jackson, executive vice president of the $23-billion food wholesaler and retailer. Supervalu says Perryman’s central location and productive workforce complements its logistics network in the Mid-Atlantic and New England region.
