WASHINGTON, DC-Charleston, SC-based Whitewood LLC has purchased the Sofitel Hotel for reported $20 million to $25 million, and also announced a $5 million renovation and name change for the historic building, to The Churchill Hotel. The company also announced it had signed a long-term lease with MeriStar Hotels & Resorts to manage the 144-room boutique hotel, located at 1914 Connecticut Ave., NW.

MeriStar also manages two other South Carolina properties for Whitewood, according to MeriStar chairman Paul Whetsell. The Churchill will mark the 14th property managed with the metro Washington area, with six in the city and seven in Maryland in Northern Virginia.
