It is the fourth office for Atwell-Hicks, with the other offices located in the Metropolitan Detroit area.

"We are really pleased to be opening a new office and expanding our services to another state," says President and CEO Robert Macomber. "We have been growing at such a fast rate, it was time for us to look at other states and geographic areas for expansion."

A growing area of the firm's business is in the communications, fiber optic and pipeline market sectors. This specialized area of engineering and surveying earned the company more than $3 million in sales for the fiscal year 2000. Having completed work on more than 1,700 cellular tower locations and 1,000 miles of natural gas pipeline, the firm has set its sights on downtown Chicago and its suburbs.

Atwell-Hicks projects it will complete more than 750 cell tower surveys and installations this year and forecasts the market in telecommunications and pipelines will continue to grow for another five to ten years.

Other target markets in the Chicago area include land development for residential and commercial/office/industrial, and real estate.

The new office, located next to Northern Illinois University's Naperville campus, is 9,300 sf with 10 individual offices. In addition to the offices, there are also 24 workstations, a library room, a training room, and expansion capacity for up to 70 employees.

Jeffrey Evans, PS, and Todd Roberts, PE will be relocating to the new office as co-managers along with eight other staff members who will transfer.

The company is planning on adding up to 15 additional staff to the office in 2001.

The firm was founded in 1905 and currently has 200 employees in Ann Arbor, Brighton, and Washington Township.
