Scheduled to attend the May 17 session are: Carmel Town Supervisor Frank J. Del Campo, Commissioner Joseph P. Lynch of the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal and Donald J. Wolff, senior vice president of the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York. The event is slated to begin at 11 a.m.

Hughson Commons will feature 94 affordable senior apartments in one, two-story and two, two-and-a-half story buildings. The community will include 78 one-bedroom apartments, and 16 two-bedroom residences.

The first units are expected to be available for occupancy early next year, Wilder Balter officials say. Hughson Commons is located nearby the Putnam County Office of the Aging and a footpath is being built by Wilder Balter Partners to connect the two properties.

The Hughson Commons project is being funded from a variety of public and private sources, including: federal housing tax credits; the New York State HOME program, from the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal/Housing Trust Fund Corporation; Federal Home Loan Bank's Affordable Housing Program through its member bank, Mahopac National Bank; and a Fannie Mae loan through Lend Lease Mortgage Capital.

"We recognize the need for affordable housing for senior citizens in the Hudson Valley. The Hughson Commons community will provide a quality living environment that is convenient to all the amenities such as shopping, recreation, and senior services," says Bob Wilder, a principal of Wilder Balter Partners.

The Wilder Balter firm is also developing two major senior housing communities on Long Island. Recently, Wilder Balter Partners opened Woodcrest Estates, a 256-unit, garden-style senior apartment community in Port Jefferson Station and is currently planning Phase 2 at Woodcrest Estates, which will offer 216 senior apartments. Company officials say they expect the company will obtain necessary approvals for Phase 2 by the end of 2001.

In addition, Wilder Balter Partners recently broke ground on Brookview Gardens, a $28 million, 208-unit senior community in Babylon. Leasing is expected to start in late fall of this year.
