Boston Properties did not return calls by presstime, but the locally-headquartered development company is reportedly interested in a large-scale office development with some retail and restaurants. Initially, plans for the site had included entertainment, retail, and housing as well as a hotel. The city has been interested in developing a hotel here to support the proposed convention center planned for the waterfront in South Boston.
If Boston Properties does not include housing in a project here, it will have to build housing off-site to meet the city requirements for a minimum density of housing, depending upon the size of the project. Among its many holdings here, Boston Properties owns the Prudential Tower and the surrounding retail mall.
