And there are still others, like MulvannyG2 Architecture, that are busy occupying spaces they have designed, built or financed. Mulvanny moved recently into its self-designed corporate headquarters in the newly opened Hines' One Twelfth @ Twelfth office complex in Downtown Bellevue. For Mulvanny, however, it's more than taking over mere space, it's the actual completion of a plan.

The 480,000-sf campus includes three, six-story buildings. Mulvanny will occupy the top three floors of the 134,000-sf MulvannyG2 Building. The two other buildings, each 173,000 sf, are still under construction, scheduled for completion later this spring.

The move to new corporate headquarters is not the only new addition for the firm. The move coincides with the firm's name change--from Mulvanny Architects to MulvannyG2 Architecture. The name change reflects the firm's increased size and professional focus due to its 1999 merger with G2 Architecture, a Seattle-based firm known for office design.

"Our new name highlights the individual strengths of both Mulvanny and G2 Architects, and communicates our enhanced design capabilities now accessible to all clients," says Mitch Smith, MulvannyG2 president. "We may have a new name, but we're still the same people."

Recently ranked the country's fastest growing architecture firm by the Zweig Letter, a respected trade publication, MulvannyG2's move provides growing room for the firm's increasing employee base, clientele and expanded capabilities.

"We have planned our new offices to ensure they would meet our growing space needs and future expansion goals, while reflecting our commitment to design at work for our clients and employees," says Phillip Goodman, AIA, MulvannyG2 vice president and lead architect on the project.

"The move culminates three years of planning to expand our practice areas with strategic partnerships and hires of key designers," says Smith. "In addition to opening our new headquarters, we will continue our Seattle office operation to maintain accessibility to all Puget Sound clients."

The move also marks the firm's MulvannyG2's 30th anniversary. Doug Mulvanny started the firm in 1971, opening an office in Downtown Seattle. The firm moved to Bellevue in 1982 and opened its first branch offices in Portland and Boston in 1994. The next year, Seattle architecture firms Ing & Associates and Alfred Croonquist Architects joined the firm.

By 1999, the firm opened offices in Washington, DC and Taipei, Taiwan and had grown to 284 employees, including 80 licensed architects. Currently, MulvannyG2 has 320 employees, including 90 licensed architects.
