Pulte at Bat Again on Everglades Project

MIAMI-The homebuilder's South Florida operation is gearing up for another battle in a five-year-old bid to build a major mixed-use residential development in the Everglades buffer zone.

MIAMI-Pulte Homes Corp. is about to refile a five-year-old development plan that originally proposed development of 1,400 single-family and multifamily homes in a buffer zone separating the urban development boundaries in Miami-Dade County from Florida’s Everglades. The subsidiary of Michigan-based Pulte Corp. reportedly has invested millions since it first filed an application in 1997 to build a traditional neighborhood development on 160 acres belonging to Cropseyville Corp. NV

Two years later, though, elected county officials rejected the application on appeal from one of the 16 community zoning appeals boards. Undaunted, the development venture appealed the decision to a Miami-Dade trial court and last year won relief. The court remanded the case to the county for another hearing.

Abiding by the court’s decision, county officials agreed in principal last November to allow Pulte Homes and Cropseyville to refile an amended zoning application with the county’s community zoning appeals board No. 11.
