Alex Sutton, Woodlands' vice president of land development, says the plaza and paths surround the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is done and work has started on a transit network to link it to the Waterway Convention Center. Planners hope to begin the 18-month construction timeline for the convention center sometime this summer.

Sutton says work is under way on another section of transit way, which begins at Woodloch Forest Drive and extends west of the under-construction Anadarko headquarters building. The developer also is taking bids for a section of pathway-tram that will start at the Anardarko building on Lake Robbins Drive and extend to Woodlands Mall.

Operating company executives are studying such transportation means as rubber-wheeled trolleys and water taxis to employ along The Waterway. "After the research is complete, we expect to order three trolleys and three to four water taxis this summer," says Robert Heineman, Woodlands' vice president of planning. Before a decision is made, executives will visit other cities with a water taxi system. The Waterway is scheduled to open in fall 2002.
