Construction Unions Stop Projects

ST. PAUL, MN-Contracts for many of the building trades unions expired at the end of last week. Larger projects are not affected, but work on the $41-million bus garage and $19-million parking ramp Downtown are halted.

ST. PAUL, MN-Several construction projects around the Twin Cities have been shut down this week due to labor contract disputes. A variety of construction unions either went on strike or withheld their services after contracts expired at the end of the last week.

Work will continue on large construction projects that have separate agreements prohibiting strikes. That said, work has stopped at many small projects, such as a $19-million parking ramp in downtown St. Paul being developed by the St. Paul Port Authority, and a $41-million bus garage for Metro Transit going up at Mississippi and Cayuga streets in St. Paul.
