Dispute May Close 9-Hole Golf Course

MADISON HEIGHTS, MI-The local trash management agency won't sell the land to Oakland County. So the county is threatening to demolish close down the Red Oaks Golf Course for good. It's closed while a storm water drain is installed.`

MADISON HEIGHTS, MI-A nine-hole golf course is in danger of being closed forever because of a dispute between Oakland County officials and a local waste authority. The Southeast Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority, which manages trash for 12 communities in the county, owns part of a former landfill where Red Oaks Golf Course was operated until last year.

Oakland County ran the course as part of its parks system. Starting in 2000, the course has been closed for the installation of a large, $144-million storm water drain system under the course.

The county leases 16 acres of land, which includes just more than three holes of the course, from SOCRRA. The land is adjacent to a 20-acre SOCRRA owned incinerator and transfer station.
