Firm Helps Communities Land Brownfield Grants

DETROIT-AKT Peerless Environmental services recently assisted Jackson County, the city of Lansing, Saginaw County as well as the cities of St. Louis and Three Rivers in preparing successful applications for brownfield funding.

DETROIT-AKT Peerless Environmental services recently assisted five Michigan communities in preparing successful applications for brownfield funding. The United States Environmental Protection Agency announced late last month the release of $38 million in brownfield program funding for Brownfield Redevelopment Pilot Programs across the nation.

Among the recipients of this latest round of funding are several Michigan communities. The Saginaw County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority will receive a $1 million Brownfie1d Revolving Local Fund Grant, as will Jackson County. Jackson County will also receive $150,000 in supplemental funding to support its ongoing Brownfield Assessment Pilot Project. The city of Lansing will receive a $500,000 Brownfield Revolving Loan Fund Grant, and the cities of St. Louis and Three Rivers will each receive a $200,000 Brownfield Assessment Pilot Grant to establish new brownfieldprograms.

Demonstration Pilots use environmental technology, management, and planning strategies to facilitate redevelopment of contaminated commercial and industrial properties.
