Atlanta-based architects, Rabun, Hogan, Ota & Rasche and Chattanoogan production architect, Franklin & Associates, designed the 214,000-sf facility. Beers/Parks, a joint venture, served as the general contractor. The three-story Chattanoogan consists of a 202-room hotel and 25,000-sf conference center with five general session rooms, 12 conference rooms, 22-seat circular boardroom and 88-seat amphitheater. It also includes a two-story lobby with exposed ornamental steel trusses reflective of Chattanooga's railroad history and a 200-tree urban forest in the courtyard. Hines' Mary Hill has overseen construction, which got under way in November 1999.

In a prepared statement, Chattanooga City project manager Rob Taylor says the team effort, led by Hines, has "provided a development model and experience comparable to the outstanding architectural impact of the facility itself."
