The renovation also created a new gallery space. San Diego-based Tucker, Sadler & Associates, Inc. Architects and Planning Consultants served as the designers for the renovation.
"The rotunda has been transformed just by the conservator's work alone, cleaning 75 years of dust and deposits from the ceiling, walls and floors," said Roger Hill, project designer from Tucker, Sadler. "But we also added a considerable amount of new lighting to the room, and now you can see the incredible richness of detail and color of the original space.
The original interior rotunda is part of a historic district listed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The museum's climate control system was also extensively rehabilitated to better maintain temperature and humidity levels critical to preserving the collection.
