"New York City has never had an established NYSCAR chapter, something we want to change because we really see this area as the hub of the state," Lewis B. Kaye, CEO of LBKaye International Realty Commercial Services and elected president of the new group, tells GlobeSt.com. Kaye is actually already on NYSCAR's board of governors through an established chapter and was the individual that initiated the petition to form this new group.

The fate of group hinges on NAR's approval of the petition. NAR is scheduled to hear the request of this newly formed group on June 24th. A vote on if the new chapter will be formed is expected to come from NAR after arguments are heard.

"The goal of the chapter is to start with local brokers who do commercial sales here in order to exchange listings and ideas amongst ourselves to improve our businesses and establish a more professional environment," Kaye says. "The idea is to get existing NAR members to exchange listings and ideas."

While the group hasn't been given the green light yet, insiders close to the happenings say there's a good chance that NAR will accept the bid. At present the group consists of 15 members but is actively recruiting new people as we speak with the intention to get at least 100 members in place.

"In general, more companies are going national, and as a result, smaller brokerages will begin to connect to NAR through this new chapter to keep up," adds Marilyn Harra Kaye, president of MLBKaye International Realty and elected vice president of the group. "Manhattan just isn't as small as it used to be. There will always be a local feel and a REBNY, but you'll see NAR and NYSCAR coming in as well."
