State Awards First Design-Build Pact for $34.5- Mil Hospital

PHOENIX-McCarthy Building Cos. has snagged the state's first design-build project under legislation passed last year. The $34.5-million Arizona State Civil and Behavioral Hospital breaks ground in August.

PHOENIX-For the first time in recent history, the Arizona state government will have an office facility built using a design-build bid method.

The Arizona Department of Administration has awarded a contract to McCarthy Building Cos. to construct the $34.5-million Arizona State Civil and Behavioral Hospital. The 200,000-sf hospital will be built on the campus of the Arizona State Hospital, which is at the northeast corner of 24th and Van Buren streets in Phoenix. Ground breaking is set for August, with a completion date of fall 2002.
