OCEANSIDE, CA-North County leaders took a stand here against regional government Monday, arguing that a countywide plan could remove decisions about land use and transportation from their control. At a meeting called by San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Horn, North County elected officials said they couldn’t trust leadership in the county’s largest city, San Diego, to watch out for the interests of the northern portion of the county.

Between now and August, Regional Government Efficiency Commission, formed by state Sen. Steve Peace, D-Chula Vista, will draft a proposal to create a new regional agency. The plan would then go before the state Legislature for approval. If approved in Sacramento, any plan would then require a countywide vote.

At the Monday meeting, Horn took liberties with the acronym for the commission—RGEC—calling it a “reject.”
