The casino has 850 slot machines, 24 gaming tables and two bars. A 250-seat, 24-hour restaurant is scheduled to open May 22. Decor features brightly colored beach themes, with faux wood and straw structures. The atmosphere will be casual, with the nearly 700 employees not required to wear ties.
Casino Pauma, east of Interstate 15 on state Route 76 on Pauma Reservation Road, is the fourth North County casino to open in recent months. On the same highway is the much-larger $115 million Pala Casino, which opened April 3.
Then there is the San Pasqual tribe's $40 million Valley View casino. That's just a temporary facility for a larger $180 million resort. Another temporary casino on the Rincon reservation will be replaced next year by a $100 million casino and hotel built by Harrah's Entertainment.
