"This RFP is in keeping with the Giuliani Administration's ongoing efforts to enhance use of the Brooklyn waterfront for waterborne movement of cargo in the Port, to reduce interstate truck traffic, wear and tear on our roadways and air pollution," said EDC president Michael G. Carey. "The winning proposal will also increase economic activity, provide job opportunities for area residents, as well as maximize financial return to the city."

Located between the Gowanus Bay and Third Avenue at 25th Street, the 6.8-acre site is made up of a 200-foot by 1,300-foot pier and an adjacent parcel. The pier was constructed on fill. EDC officials report that the goal of this project is to allow the city to lease the site on a longer-term basis for maritime-related uses, rather than the current storage and distribution facility there now for sand and stone.

The RFP is available upon request at 212-312-3969 or [email protected]. Emails must contain the code 25P-0501 in the subject line.
