Northwest Maritime Center Gains More Support

PORT TOWNSEND, WA-Thanks to a $500,000 donation from the Camilla Chandler Family Foundation, some $2.5 million now has been raised for the $8 million project, planned for a dock once occupied by the Thomas Oil Company.

PORT TOWNSEND, WA-This sleepy town on the northern shores of Puget Sound once was the West Coast’s capital for exploration, shipping and timber. Now, a $500,000 private grant may make it the place to be for watercraft historians.

The Northwest Maritime Center got a jump-start from the Camilla Chandler Family Foundation to build the new center on a dock once occupied by the Thomas Oil Company. The $8 million project has evolved considerably since its initial look 10 years ago and organizers now have collected approximately $2.5 million in campaign contributions.
