Officials expect the soccer fields to be completed by next spring. The next phase will include three Little League fields, restrooms, a concession stand and a playground.

All told, "A Place To Play" will eventually include a community center, two lakes, wildlife preserve and picnic areas in addition to four baseball fields, a skate park, outdoor basketball courts, volleyball, shuffleboard, bocce ball and children's playgrounds.

The city has obtained about $2.3 million in state bond money for the park. The remainder of the financing is being sought from additional state and federal sources as well as from businesses, individuals and service clubs.

The site, between Stony Point road and Fulton Road is owned by Santa Rosa's regional wastewater treatment system and now has three water storage ponds and a large hay field. As the park is developed, the storage ponds will be moved and treated wastewater will be used to irrigate the playing fields.
