Denver Sets Tourism Record in 2000

DENVER-A new report says more out-of-town visitors stayed overnight in Denver last year than ever before, with an 8% percent growth in pleasure visitors far outpacing the nationwide trend.

DENVER-Good news for downtown hotels and restaurants. More out-of-town visitors stayed overnight in Denver last year than ever before, according to a new report.

The Longwoods International analysis, conducted on behalf of the Denver Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau, shows that 9.6 million visitors stayed overnight in Denver in 2000, a 7% over 1999. Most important to tourism officials, the number of pleasure visitors increased 8% last year to 6.9 million in 2000.

The increase in Denver visitors came despite the fact that Colorado saw a 5% drop in pleasure travelers in 2000, dropping to 19.8 million.
