The affiliate of Fort Myers-based Alanda Corp. is acquiring the property from Agri-Insurance Co. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of La Belle, FL-based Alico Inc. It is the latest in a string of property sales by the agribusiness and land-holding company that owns around 140,000 acres in the Florida counties of Collier, Hendry, Lee and Polk.
Located just north of the university, the site fronts the proposed Jacobs Mall. The sale site contains acreage set aside for the Florida Gulf Coast Park, a proposed regional high-tech R&D park.
This is also the latest acquisition for family-owned Alanda Ltd., which also is developing commercial real estate projects at Colonial Boulevard and Interstate 75 in Lee County and at Collier Boulevard and Rattlesnake Hammock in Collier County. Anticipated total gross sell-out on those two projects is estimated at $34 million.
"The (Alico) property, situated between Florida Gulf Coast University and Southwest Florida International Airport, provides an excellent opportunity for airport commerce, hotels, office, warehouse and retail commercial development," O.J. Buigas, Alanda president, says in a prepared statement.
"It is the hole in the donut of development, the center point for commercial development between Lee and Collier counties, with the Alico interchange destined to become the primary interchange for the new airport facility."
