UPDATE: Alico Subsidiary Sells 2,500 Acres for $29 Mil

FORT MYERS, FL-An affiliate of locally based Alanda Corp. envisions construction of a high-tech, research-and-development project on the property it acquired from the La Belle, Fl-based agribusiness and land-holding company. Fort Myers is 118 miles west of Miami.

FORT MYERS, FL-Alanda Ltd. has secured a contract on about 2,500 acres for $29 million or $11,600 per acre (27 cents per sf) with plans to construct a high-tech, research-and-development park adjacent to Florida Gulf Coast University.

The affiliate of Fort Myers-based Alanda Corp. is acquiring the property from Agri-Insurance Co. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of La Belle, FL-based Alico Inc. It is the latest in a string of property sales by the agribusiness and land-holding company that owns around 140,000 acres in the Florida counties of Collier, Hendry, Lee and Polk.

Located just north of the university, the site fronts the proposed Jacobs Mall. The sale site contains acreage set aside for the Florida Gulf Coast Park, a proposed regional high-tech R&D park.
