Fred Caldwell, president of Caldwell Watson tells GlobeSt.com the firm will provide turnkey development on the project, taking it from land development to construction completion. The Cy-Fair College Fairbanks Center is scheduled for completion in March 2002.
Caldwell says the relationship with his company and the college district goes back for a number of years. Caldwell Watson also developed the Tomball College at Willow Chase Center, a 52,000-sf building located on the edge of Caldwell Watson's Willowbrook Business and Technology Center industrial park. Watson says his firm's interest in college centers stems from the positive contributions the schools make to the community.
Caldwell believes workforce development, training and re-education of workers that the schools provide are invaluable to the northwest Houston community where his company is centered. Watson says he also enjoys working with the college district's management team. "The district's team is committed to enhancing educational access for the Cy-Fair area," he says, "and we support that goal."
Dr. Diane Troyer, president of Cy-Fair College says, "Fairbanks Center will be the first step toward reaching our vision for Cy-Fair College to provide affordable, convenient and responsive educational opportunities for this community."
In addition to this development, Caldwell Watson vice president Keith Grothaus recently has assisted the college district in the acquisition of more than 200 acres of land for the Cy-Fair College main campus. Located at the northwest corner of Barker Cypress Road and West Road, the campus is scheduled to open in fall 2003.
