BOSTON-Finally there’s good news in the face of the uncertainty surrounding the development of the proposed convention center here in South Boston. More taxes and fees designated to partly fund the $800-million center are being collected than was originally anticipated. In fact, state revenue officials reportedly told state legislators at a hearing that they are annually collecting $5 million more than they expected.

In more good news for the embattled convention center project, planners for the city reportedly stated that there will be enough new hotel rooms built in the city by the time the convention center is slated to open in 2004. In legislation from 1997 regarding the center, it stipulates that the city will need 4,800 rooms to accommodate the center.
