The Arborway Yard will also have a new $50 million MBTA facility, which is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2003 and will house newly-purchased compressed natural gas buses. As part of an agreement with the community, the number of buses here will not exceed 118 and there will be no diesel buses on the site.

Parking for employees will be available on the roof and sound barriers will be included in the design of the facility as well as shielded lighting to prevent light pollution. Stationary commercial advertising will be banned from the site.

The Arborway facility is to replace the MBTA facility at the Bartlett Street site. In a released statement, Governor Jane Swift stated, "The upgraded Arborway …. will also offer new land to Boston's historic emerald necklace and provide important recreational opportunities in the area."
