BOSTON-The Bartlett Street Bus Station here in Roxbury will be closed and deeded to the city for future redevelopment use. Local activists have been complaining to the state for over ten years that the fumes from the bus station were causing health problems in the area.

The bus station here will be closed within two years, as soon as the MBTA station at Arborway Yard is completed. Half the buses stored at the Bartlett Street Station will go to Arborway while the other half will be sent to an MBTA facility on Southampton Street.

In a released statement, Governor Jane Switf states, “This is prime real estate and the possibilities following redevelopment are significant. After the MBTA vacates the Bartlett Street location, we are pleased to give the facility and the surrounding land to the citizens of Dudley Square so they can make good use of it.”
