The aerospace giant has signed a five-year contract to occupy two buildings in the 15400 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. Although none of the parties involved would disclose financial details of the transaction, area brokers estimate its value at $12 million.
The Irvine space will house the Southern California operations of Connexion by Boeing, says Jeff Manley, a broker from the Staubach Co. who worked on the deal. The group is developing a new in-flight broadband data service that offers high-speed Internet and corporate Intranet access, email, two-way live data transfer and live television.
Manley and Kenneth Blye, both of whom work in Staubach's Irvine corporate services office, represented the tenant. Tom Greubel represented Discovery Business Center's owner, the Irvine Co.
Earlier this month, officials of Seattle-based Boeing Co. said they would relocate the company's headquarters and roughly 500 jobs to Chicago after officials there offered a package of state and local incentives worth $63 million. However, Connexion and some of Boeing's other subsidiaries will continue to need relatively large amounts of space in other cities, executives at the parent company say.
