Three development teams--including a couple of the West's most active developers--have shown interest in master-planning more than 100 acres inthe East County community of Santee. The targeted project is a a biotech/high-tech campus totaling 1.75 million sf--and possibly up to four million fet at build-out. The project near the Santee Trolley Square commercial project could also include retail and residential development.
The teams are San Diego-based Lankford & Associates, San Diego High Tech Ventures and Minneapolis-based Ryan Cos. San Diego High Tech Ventures is a joint venture of Dealy Development, McComic Consolidated, Scottsdale, AZ-based Vestar Corp. and the Orix Corp. of Chicago. A decision by the county is expected sometime in June.
Santee is among 16 large sites across the county identified last month by a real estate consulting firm as potential homes for technology clusters for biotech and high-tech manufacturing.
The San Diego-based London Group Realty Advisors Inc. further recommendsdeveloping both a larger regional technology center and a network of technology parks where manufacturing operations can nourish and growthrough close proximity to each other.
London Group Realty, hired by the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp., identified two sites in the South County community of Otay Ranch in Chula Vista, Fanita Ranch in Santee,the international border area of Otay Mesa, the Carlsbad Raceway area and several other sites as having potential for such development.
