The special daylong program comes as many building owners across the state struggle with soaring energy bills and the threat of additional power blackouts as the summer approaches. GlobeSt.com and its LA-based sister magazine, Real Estate Southern California, are media sponsors of Friday's event.
The program is designed to bring Southland building owners and managers up-to-date on the latest developments in the energy market and provide them with strategies to handle potential power shortages and curb rising bills. More than a dozen experts will address topics ranging from little known rebate and incentive programs to innovative power-saving concepts, legal issues and legislative efforts to end the power crisis.
The forum and expo is part of BOMA's ongoing efforts to help managers and owners cope with the energy crisis. BOMA is teaming with the State and Consumer Services Agency to help distribute "Flex Your Power" energy-conservation brochures to landlords and tenants alike; is working with state officials to exchange conventional light bulbs for power-saving fluorescent bulbs; and has met with Southern California Edison to discuss the implementation of recently passed legislation that provides funding for loans and rebates on energy-saving equipment.
The June 1 program begins at 7:30 a.m. with check-in and a continental breakfast. A series of seven panels and speeches will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. The exhibition opens at 11 a.m. and runs through 5 p.m.
Registration is $125 for BOMA members, $175 for non-members. More information can be obtained by calling (213) 629-2662 or by visiting the LA chapter's web page, www.bomagla.org.
