The £200m ($280 million) development, on the site of the former Knowle hospital, willeventually provide homes for 1,500 people and is seen as the first majortest of the Government's planning policy guidance for creating sustainabledevelopments rather than simply housing estates. Berkeley will also beproviding business premises, shops and leisure facilities in an effort tocreate a new community amongst the Victorian and Edwardian infirmarybuildings, which date back to 1852.
Agency Knight Frank is marketing the project, which is expected to see itsfirst occupants in July.
