City to Sell Properties to Consolidate Services

SOMERVILLE, MA-In an effort to consolidate city services here in a building next to Somerville’s city hall, city Mayor Dorothy Kelly Gay has proposed selling the current city hall annex and two other city-owned properties at 50 Bow St. and 83 Broadway. Part of the proposal calls for the annex to be sold to develop housing.

The school department’s administrative offices, which is now leasing space from the Boys & Girls Club and the Council On Aging and the Office of Human Services, which leases space from Tufts University, as well as the departments now in the annex would move to another city-owned building at 350 Medford Street, which is currently being used for storage. Almost all city services would then be right near each other.
