In the biggest deal, Unite has bought its main rival, UniLodge, for a total cost of £108.8. million ($154 million). UniLodge operates nationwide, and currently owns 2,524 rooms with a further 1,590 rooms under development. The UniLodge portfolio is strongest in Scotland and the North of England, whereas Unite had a bias towards the South of England. The only significant areas of overlap are in Manchester and Liverpool.
At the same time Unit has bought two smaller companies - Berkeley House Holdings and Corda Global - owning 1,117 beds in Manchester and Sheffield for £30.7 million ($43 million). This scheme in Manchester, comprises 671 beds plus 3,500 sf of retail space on the ground floor. This acquisition will bring the total number of beds held by Unite in Manchester to 2,198 of which 1,174 are under development. And in Sheffield Corda Global had 446 beds, bringing Unite's total in the city to 765.
