Weigand is President of J. P. Weigand & Sons, a real estate company in Wichita, and was President of the National Association of Realtors in the USA in 1988. He has been a member of FIABCI since 1984 and served as Deputy World President from 1992 to 1993.
The new president jokingly called himself 'a minnow among whales' and said: 'No other international real estate organisation has the history and widespread participation FIABCI has. These are strengths we can and should capitalise on,' he said.
Weigand said one of his priorities as FIABCI World President will be to work with, rather than against, other professional associations in the international arena like the International Consortium of Real Estate Associations, which was launched by the National Association of Realtors a year ago.
'Our goal is to transcend geographical borders and market differences. This can only happen if we find just the right mix of competition and cooperation on this expanding marketplace,' Weigand said.
