DENVER-Vail Mountain has some boasting rights. Preliminary figures indicate it was the No. 1 ski resort in the country last year.

It took the title from Breckenridge in Summit County, CO, which recorded 1.44 million visits during the 1999-2000 season. Both Vail and Breckenridge are owned by Vail Resorts, which will be releasing its official numbers in its next quarterly report. Experts, however, contend, Vail is certain to regain the No. 1 slot.

The Colorado Ski County released partial figures on the destination ski resorts, which showed 11.5 million skier visits in the 2000-2001 ski season.
