EDC Selects Firm to Redevelop Brooklyn Waterfront

NEW YORK CITY-The city has selected Moffat & Nichol Engineers to develop the construction design for a rehabilitation project at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal and the Red Hook Container Terminal.

NEW YORK CITY-The South Brooklyn Marine Terminal and Red Hook Container Terminal in Brooklyn are both one step closer to the vision of rehabilitation the city has for them. City Hall and the Economic Development Corp. have been working to revitalize the city’s marine infrastructure. While NYC2012 works on plans for a high-speed ferry service for human transport, the city and EDC have just enlisted Moffat & Nichol Engineers to work on the freight side of the plan.

Moffat & Nichol will design the final construction plan for redevelopment of waterfront rail facilities at SBMT and the Red Hook. They will provide planning and engineering services along the way.

“Advancing these two projects indicates that we are making important strides in the redevelopment of Brooklyn’s working waterfront,” says EDC president Michael G. Carey. “With this designation, the mayor’s vision of expanding maritime freight activities in New York City is closer to becoming a reality.”
