Land Buys Cited in Corruption Indictments

CICERO, IL-The town president and nine others are accused by US Attorney Scott Lassar of looting $10 million from insurance money. They allegedly launder the money by buying a Wisconsin golf course and Indiana horse farm.

CICERO, IL-Ten town officials, including third-term President Betty Loren-Maltese, have been accused by US Attorney Scott Lassar in a 17-count indictment for allegedly looting $10 million from town employee health and workman’s compensation insurance payments for their personal use. That includes laundering the money by buying Four Seasons Golf Course in Pembine, WI, which was eyed as a possible casino, as well as an Indiana horse farm, according to indictments.

Lassar says Loren-Maltese invested $300,000 in Four Seasons. When the group was unable to win permission to open a casino, the embattled town president got $150,000 of her investment returned to her, he adds.

Loren-Maltese has been a licensed Illinois real estate salesperson since 1974, her license now sponsored by Cermak Road Realty, Inc.
