Giant Foods Leases Former Rockville Hechinger Store

ROCKVILLE, MD-Giant Foods signed a long-term lease for the former Hechinger location on Hungerford Drive. This is the third lease JBG Rosenfeld Retail has secured for former Hechinger sites in the metro area.

ROCKVILLE, MD-Giant Food has signed a long-term lease for the former Hechinger location on Hungerford Drive. This is the third lease JBG Rosenfeld Retail has secured for former Hechinger sites in the metro area, after getting control over 11 of the home superstore’s leaseholds after its bankruptcy proceedings.

The Rockville site is located at the intersection of Rt. 355 and Hungerford Drive, adjacent to theintersection of North Washington Street and Rockville Pike. The property includes a 53,000-sf building that will be torn down to make way for a new 54,000-sf full-service grocery store.

“Securing a lease for this location from a strong, local grocer like Giant is a great coup not just for JBGR, but for the surrounding community,” says JBGR president Jim Garibaldi. “Although Giant currently operates a small store in this market, the opening of this new, much larger store certainly will change the complexion of the neighborhood.”
