The tribe opened an interim casino in April and plans to build a $200 million hotel-casino complex. The roadwork is designed to lessen the impact of traffic on the Valley Center area.
The temporary casino has 750 slot machines, 12 blackjack tables and a buffet. In the only partnership of its kind in California, the San Pasqual tribe is developing the project with financial backing by the Tunica-Biloxi tribe in Louisiana.
About $5.3 million of the money will be spent over the next two years on Lake Wohlford Road between Valley Center and Woods Valley roads. Improvements will include turnouts, passing lanes, guardrails, straightening of curves and widening of shoulders.
San Diego County, home to 12 tribes holding compacts with the state for gaming facilities, is expected to see more new Indian casinos than any other California county.
