Wal-Mart Putting Up Its Own Center

POMPANO BEACH, FL-The Bentonville, AR retailer is developing Atlantic Commercial Center, a 270,000 sf venture that will be anchored by a Wal-Mart Supercenter at an estimated size of 150,000 sf to 175,000 sf with a projected hard cost of $13 million or about $75 per sf.

POMPANO BEACH, FL-Wal-Mart Stores East Inc. is ready to pull building permits on Atlantic Commercial Center, now that modifications to the site’s plat have been approved.

The Bentonville, AR-based retailer received authorization last year to build a new superstore as part of 270,000 sf of retail space on a portion of the old-Pompano Beach Racing Track at the southeast corner of Powerline Road and Atlantic Boulevard, according to Broward County records.

Besides the superstore, plans for the 37-acre center also include the proposed development of Wendy’s and Pollo Tropical fast-food franchises, a bank branch and a convenience store.
