The resort, which contains 400 guestrooms, stands on a 172-acre parcel in Dana Point. It will feature an 18-hole oceanfront golf course, a private beach club with access to a 6.1-acre beach, a 500-sf business center, several restaurants, a wine cellar with a large tasting room, a beauty salon and various specialty retail shops.
The resort's main attraction, however, is a 30,000-sf spa. Known as the Gaucin Spa, it contains 25 treatment rooms, fountains, a wishing well and a lap pool.
Hotel developers across the country have begun to incorporate spa facilities into their properties, as the trend has gained momentum in recent years. Spas now outpace food and beverage revenues as the single largest grossing component of resort hotels, according to a report by The Concord Group, a real estate advisory firm with offices in Newport Beach and San Francisco.
