The proposal consists of the construction of a 100,000-sf, five-level YMCA facility on 1.4 acres of land currently developed as a city-owned surface parking lot and occupied by the Broadway People Mover station.

The new facility would house the organization's programs, a child care facility and outdoor play area, a medical evaluation and physical rehabilitation clinic, 15,000-sf of street level retail, a 202-space parking structure, a fitness center, a 200-seat gymnasium and a 200-seat arts and humanities performance center.

Construction of the facility would entail the demolition and rebuilding of the Broadway people mover station. A two-story parking structure would be incorporated into the development.

About $25 million has been earmarked for the facility through grant funds. Groundbreaking is expected in 2002. The matter was taken under advisement by the commission.
